Cosmetology Student Success Story: Megan White

Our Renton location was excited to award Ms. Megan White this past month in an all school assembly for marketing in such a way that she is connecting with future clientele while sharing her skills along the way.

About Megan White

Megan searched for the passion in her career in several areas but never fully felt things aligning the way she imagined a career would until now. “Being in the beauty industry has always been a passion of mine since the first time I put a fashion color in my hair when I was in grade school. Growing up, my mom always wanted the best for me. She helped me through running start classes and advanced placement homework, it was expected that I go to college and shoot for a high paying job. I tried many different things such as CNA, Early Childhood Development, Software Development, even went to my local community college to achieve my AA degree. I just couldn’t find anything that I wanted to make a career out of. I could tell that my mom was disappointed, but she has been so supportive through my cosmetology journey and I couldn’t be more thankful for her,” shares Megan.

Megan shares her reason for picking Evergreen Beauty College over other schools in the area to start that journey she was ready to take, “Looking into beauty colleges was nerve wrecking because I had absolutely no idea what I was searching for. Evergreen had the best reviews from students, clients and educators. I came in for a tour and immediately I knew that this was the perfect fit for me,” Megan offered.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Megan has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“So far I’ve experienced a little bit of everything here at Evergreen, and by far womens cuts and color are hands down my favorite things to do in my program! I have also received bingo sheet that we have to fill out every month for assignments that keep us refining our skills in different areas. In each different box on the bingo is a different service we have to perform whether it be on our mannequins, classmates or on clients. This has been so helpful for me because it pulls me out of my comfort zone. Sometimes I see something on my bingo and I just think ‘dang, I really don’t want to do this’ and it’s usually something that I haven’t done before, so it’s really helpful in that aspect.”

“As for a strength of mine, women’s haircutting came naturally to me, so it’s definitely one of my strengths in school. I’ve been watching my classmates perform services that I’m weaker in and it makes me excited to practice and get better in those areas too. I’m always looking for ways to get better so I can perform the best services for all my clients, no matter.”

“Something that sets me apart from other stylists is that I’m really passionate about everything that I do, especially when it has to do with anything in the cosmetology industry. When someone sits in my chair, they have my undivided attention and my only goal is for them to leave the salon feeling better than when they came in. Other than giving the client an exceptional service, I provide a warm and loving environment. I’ve been known to be a perfectionist, so my ultimate goal is to never let a client leave my chair without feeling 100% about the service and how it turned out,” says Megan.

The Next Step

Even though Ms. Megan has a bit of school left she is already looking at the future, “After I graduate I’m planning to work in a salon for a little bit to gain more experience and outside clientele. After I get comfortable working in a salon under my own license I would love to open my own salon! Opening my own salon isn’t something that I’ve put a lot of thought into, but I’m taking baby steps until then. I definitely have big goals for myself down the line. I’m excited to see where I end up! In the mean time I do have advice for incoming students, and it is to take constructive criticism gracefully. Nothing is said to be mean, nobody is out to get you. The educators and your peers are looking out for you and trying to help, it’s beauty school and nobody is excepting you to be perfect” shares Megan. At Evergreen we have this saying, ‘ feedforward not feedback’. We truly believe that any feedforward is done with a genuine heart only wanting the best for that person. To experience it here in a safe environment before you get into the industry.
