Cosmetology Student Success Story: Yesenia Perez

About Yesenia Perez

Sometimes taking a leap of faith is what you need to pursue your dreams. That’s exactly what Yesenia, a Cosmetology student at our Renton campus did. Before Yesenia enrolled into school, she was a stay-at-home mom of two children, ages 6 and 2. What led her to starting school was her passion for hair and motivation to show her kids to not be afraid to go after their dreams. Yesenia chose the Cosmetology program because she has always had a passion for what hair can transform into, and she enjoys the feeling of making others feel beautiful by enhancing their features. When asked why Yesenia chose Evergreen Beauty College, she shared, “When the Admissions Representative returned my call, I felt supported and inspired to go after my goals.”

A vibrant color service created Yesenia.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Cosmetology program, Yesenia has shared some of the highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far, and what sets her apart from other Cosmetologists. Yesenia shared what she likes most about the Cosmetology program is hairstyling, color, and the bond she has created with her classmates. The assignments and experiences Yesenia found to be the most helpful in class is to have guest speakers come in to share their experiences in the industry and doing hands-on work.

We love to hear from our students what their area of specialty is, and what they believe sets them apart from others in their program.  Yesenia had this to say in response: “My strengths and specialties are styling, braiding and blowouts. I chose to name my Instagram account, Hairapy with Yesi because I believe I have a good listening ear. I’ve had clients feel comfortable confessing the good and bad without feeling judged or disrespected.”

The Next Step

A gorgeous, detailed updo Yesenia executed for her client.

When we asked Yesenia what her career plans are after she graduates, and she said she plans to find a great salon where she can continue to learn and grow, and eventually have her own salon and brand. Yesenia offered this advice for incoming students, “Enjoy all of the ups and downs, and never be afraid to ask questions or to mess up. Never stop learning and be open-minded.”

Yesenia is set to graduate in October. If you are interested in following her throughout the rest of her program, you can check her out on Instagram at _hairapywithyesi. Congratulations Yesenia! Evergreen looks forward to seeing you realize your dreams. We wish you all the success!
