Diary of a Nail Tech Student |Volume II|

siona larsen No rest for the wicked. Appropriate considering it was just Halloween. Anybody make it to the Hair Raising fashion show? There were certainly some spooky costumes there. I was running around like the white rabbit gluing nails on left and right, I even did some makeup. Of course Arielle won the nail portion with her whacky Mad Hatter nails. And believe me when I say she deserved it after the literal hours she spent pouring over her acrylics to get them just right.

Two weekends before that the nail tech class had the opportunity to join professionals at the northwest nail tech retreat. Lovingly known as nail camp. The first day started with a workshop to get us ready for pink and white acrylic competition. It was a novice class but as a student who already spent the morning in a panic I was pretty freaked out. Regardless of my attitude I did learn some new things, though I wasn’t confident enough to join the competition. Yet. Next year nail camp!

Dinner included ice breakers and a game that Miss Mimi’s group won. After the competition the next morning we broke out into workshops. This was where we really got into what we wanted to siona mad hatterlearn. If you wanted to learn 3D art there were classes for that. I stayed pretty basic since I’m such a newbie but I’m really glad I went to the 30 Day Manicure and got some Akzentz gel. I’m pretty sure I found a favorite.

The educators were all colorful characters. At one point I ducked into one of Nadja’s classes and saw her using this pumper bottle to put glitter onto a nail. This made for very little scattered glitter and I commented that it was really cool. Nadja waved me to come over closer and bend down… Where she then sprayed my head with glitter! I felt so unclean…

Well that’s the wrap up on the crazy month of October. Bring it on November!
