Digital Marketing Award: Amahalea Thongoulay
Some people just have a natural knack for beauty. At Evergreen Beauty College, we believe every student has the ability to unlock their natural potential.
This month, one hard working cosmetology student went above and beyond the call of beauty. She has demonstrated her ability to communicate effectively with clients, and she has showcased that with a quality video. We admire her creativity and her appreciation for her clients.
About Amahalea
Amahalea recalled the first time she realized that she loved the art of hair design: “I would have to say it started when I was younger and took regular craft scissors to several of my Barbie dolls’ hair. Granted, they all had the same short, dreadful haircut, but I still did it anyway.” she joked.
After years of practice on Barbie, Amahalea said there was a turning point in her life. That crucial time came when she realized that she didn’t only enjoy hair design, but she was also very good at it.

“Several years later, I was given the opportunity to do my older sister’s hair for her prom, in which it was my first time styling an elegant up-do. She received tons of compliments and her classmates assumed she got it professionally done in a salon.”
Soon after that, she said she was inspired to offer her hair design and styling services to fellow high-school friends for their elegant occasions.
Amahalea noted that cosmetology is not only her chosen profession, but it’s, in fact, her life.
“After I leave school, you can find me watching videos on new techniques, pinning hairstyles on my Pinterest board, looking up on products, etc. This industry is always changing and you have to stay up to date with that “it” look.” she said.
The Evergreen Experience
“I love everything about the cosmetology program.” Amahalea stated. “There isn’t one thing that I don’t enjoy doing.”
When asked about the curriculum here at Evergreen Amahalea said, “The most helpful assignment in cosmetology would be anything from our Nuts and Bolts course. Not only do we get the hands-on training but also gain the knowledge of the business side of the beauty industry. Us as students learn to embrace change, build a successful business, learn the DOs and DONTs of retail, and to provide a customer wow experience.”
Evergreen Beauty College offers students hands-on experience working with clients, but we also offer the opportunity to learn how to market yourself as a cosmetologist, business practices, and client retention. We strive to give our students every opportunity to become a well-versed, licensed cosmetologist.
In closing, she remarked on why she chose to attend Evergreen, “I chose Evergreen Beauty College in Bellevue because I loved how welcoming and family-oriented the staff were. I set up a tour, and I just knew I had to attend school here. I loved that it was a smaller campus. You really get the one-on-one attention from your instructors and they truly care for their students to not only be successful in this industry, but in our personal lives as well.”
The Next Step
We strive to prepare our students for rewarding careers in the beauty industry. We believe every Evergreen student has the potential to do great things after graduation.
We asked Amahalea about her goals after graduation: “After I graduate and become a licensed cosmetologist I will probably just “wing ” it. I would love to work in a salon but at the same time, I want to experience everything this industry has to offer. But one thing I know for sure is I do want to go back to school and continue my education to become an esthetician and makeup artist.”
Amahalea had some advice for new students, “My advice for incoming students is to always look at everything as a great learning opportunity. Stay motivated and push yourself to achieve your hopes and dreams. This industry is so versatile and you can do anything if you have passion and are willing to work hard.
