Cosmetology Student Success Story: Maritza Meza

When you decide you want to join the beauty industry, so often we assume it will be our technical skills that, not only land us a job, but will be the deciding factor that takes you far into this career. Which is actually only half of  it! While still in beauty school, Renton’s September DMA winner, Maritza Meza, understands that not only is it her technical abilities that will make her successful, but even more so, it is how she takes care of her clients. Learn more about Maritza below and how it is that she is already making her mark on the industry, one client at a time!

About Maritza

Maritza knew she wanted to get into the industry and picking the right school for her was very important. “I chose the field of Cosmetology because I have always had a strong passion for hair and make-up. Before attending Evergreen Beauty, I was finishing up my diploma while being a full-time mother to my beautiful daughter. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to fulfill my passion by attending Evergreen, ” Martiza said. An eye for detail can take you far in this industry. Whether you’re an Esthetician, Cosmetologist or Barber…and Maritza understands that importance very well. “I feel my performance of balyages, root touch-ups, thermal styles and foiling are my strengths. I feel the great attention to detail here are vital in the appearance of the clients’ hair and would put my work head and shoulders above the rest of my fellow stylists.”

The Evergreen Experience

The curriculum at Evergreen is designed to comfortably get you accustomed to working on clients. For example, the program is broken into 3 phases, where Phase 1 is meant to teach you the basics and majority of your work is done on mannequins. However, once a week our students bring in models to get really comfortable working on real clients! “For Phase One, the weekly appearance of the models really helped in giving me ideas on how to perform and execute the right way in doing the certain tasks I was given. They were also helpful in the fact that, before we went on the floor, we knew what to expect. When were taking models within the second week, enabling me to boost my self-confidence greatly.” We love hearing that you really embraced Phase One, Maritza!

School is what you make of it, no matter where you decide to go! For Maritza, “My attendance at Evergreen Beauty College is an utterly fulfilling experience for me. The school’s excellent reputation and customer reviews assisted in my selecting of the school. Before the course began, I did do research of the other local schools and not one of them attracted me as Evergreen did. I know I made the best choice I could have made.”

The Next Step

For Maritza, who is set to graduate April 2018, she is interested in expanding her knowledge of the beauty industry by taking Evergreen’s make-up artistry program after she’s done with Cosmetology. Continuing education is crucial to this industry and something that anyone who is licensed should be pursuing! Whether you’ve been a stylist for 1 year or if you’ve been in the industry for 30 years–the beauty world is always changing! “Upon successful graduation of the course, I would love to complete the make-up course; further expanding on my passion of hair and beauty. This would make me feel ’rounded’ as a successful artist.”

We always want to know what advice our current students have for any incoming prospects! Maritza said, “My advice I would give to any individuals about to attend Evergreen is to prepare for a wealth of knowledge by the instructors and a friendly and easy going atmosphere ideal for the budding stylist. I would stress to them and let them aware to expect to give 110 percent of their ability.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself, Maritza! We are all so proud of you and can’t wait to see what you continue to accomplish during the rest of your program and, of course, to see what you accomplish once you are out in the industry!
