Esthetics Student Success Story: Alison Boyd

About Alison Boyd

Before enrolling in the Esthetics program at Evergreen Beauty College, Alison was working a full-time office job while also being a mom. She knew that choosing to enroll in school while working and parenting would be a juggle, but she didn’t want to put it off any longer. She was ready to start working toward her new career.

Alison expressed that the reason she chose to begin her journey in the Esthetics program is because her interest in skin care and hair removal began to grow over the years. Her feeling was that what she was doing at the time wasn’t giving her the sense of fulfillment she desired and needed. She also said, “I finally was in a position in life where I could act on my interests and work toward making a career out of this industry.”

When asked why she chose Evergreen Beauty College, Alison had this to say: “I initially chose Evergreen because the diversity caught my eye. As I began the enrollment process, everyone was very helpful and made starting school a smooth process. Now that I am here, I am happy with my choice, and with the friendships I’ve created.  Being at Evergreen just feels right!”

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Esthetics program with us, Alison has shared some of the highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far, and what sets her apart from other Estheticians. When asked what she likes most about the Esthetics program, she said she loves the ongoing pampering between her and her classmates.

She has also found a lot of joy from the body hair removal aspect of the curriculum, and she loves the instant gratification that waxing and sugaring gives.

Alison shared with us that one of the most helpful assignments she has had during the program was the disease and disorder project. She said she found it most helpful because when dealing with the skin in any way, there are indicators or red flags that need to be recognized so that the health and integrity of the client’s skin isn’t compromised. “Not all clients can receive the services that are offered and being able to pinpoint those clients is essential.”

We asked Alison what her strengths are within her program, and what sets her apart from other estheticians.  She shared the following with us:

“Waxing! After school I want to become a waxing and sugaring specialist. I have also gained certification in brow lamination and lash lift. As I get more experience with sculpting and enhancing brows, these would be services I’d want to incorporate into what I offer. I would say the feature that sets me apart from other Estheticians is me being who I am. I have my own personality that I know will draw in the right clientele for me. I don’t want my education to simply stop once I graduate school and obtain my license. I am dedicated to ongoing growth within the industry and always willing to learn so that I can better my craft and provide an enjoyable and effective experience for all of my clients.

The Next Step

After graduating from the Esthetics program, Alison’s overall goal is to be a business owner. Originally, she wanted to jump right in and own her own business. However, as she gets further along in the program, she decided she wants to start working at a waxing and sugaring spa first in order to gain more hands-on experience and techniques while also building her clientele to better prepare her for owning her own business.

We love to ask our soon-to-be graduates what advice they would offer to incoming students, and Alison had this to say: “As cliche as it sounds, trust the process. Every doubt or emotion that you may feel is normal, but don’t let it deter you from your goal. You enrolled for a reason, and you owe it to yourself to meet that goal!”

Alison is set to graduate in June. If you are interested in following her throughout the rest of her program, you can check her out on Instagram: @estheticsfocused. Congratulations Alison! Evergreen looks forward to seeing you realize your dreams! We wish you all the success!
