Esthetics Student Success Story: Jelena Yuen

About Jelena Yuen

Taking that leap of faith to pursue your passion can be scary sometimes but, that did not stop Jelena Yuen. “Before enrolling in school I was working part time at BECU as a Member Consultant (and still am), while also being a full-time mommy! What led me here was finally being ready to leave my comfort zone and chase after a dream that has been in my mind for a few years now,” Jelena shares.

The ability to customize each skincare service to her clients and loving what you do, helped Jelena decide Esthetics was the right choice for her. “I chose the Esthetics program because I myself enjoy skincare and the satisfaction I receive when finding the appropriate products for my skin. To be able to learn more and then pass that knowledge on to others while enhancing their self-confidence, and to overall just feel good in their skin. :)” Ms. Jelena Yuen shares why she chose Evergreen Beauty College to get started towards her new goals, “I chose Evergreen Beauty College because one, I’ve had a few of my friends that have done the Esthetics program and said nothing but good things, which led me to look into the program and finally taking the leap to apply. Hearing nothing but positive feedback about the program and instructors is initially what gave me the reassurance to apply.”

The Evergreen Experience

As Jelena goes through her program, she shares with us what she likes the most so far, “What I like most about the program so far is the variety of facials we’ve been learning, and being able to have hands-on practice. I love that we learn multiple treatments because not every client has the same skin type and not every client will want the same end results.” When we asked Ms. Jelena what assignments have been the most helpful she reveals, “Right now I want to say the skin layer project was super helpful and very informative. It is a lot of information to retain but being familiar with each layer and their functions will really benefit you as the Esthetician because you will be able to reference that information for future services.”

Jelena shares her strengths, specialties and what sets her apart from other Estheticians within her training so far. “My strengths within the program is the ability to network to grow my clientele which will benefit my business down the road. What sets me apart from other Estheticians is my personality and being able to connect with each client. My treatment room is always a safe space for my clients to unwind, relax, and enjoy their time while receiving their service with me. What I can offer to each client is my trust to help get them the results they are seeking within their services by me.”

The Next Step

After graduating our Esthetics program Jelena explains her plans and goals within the industry. “My next step after graduating is to hopefully find a studio to rent and slowly grow my business. I’m still trying to figure out which services I’d like to offer, but for now renting out a space will be in the works.” When we asked Jelena to share some advice for incoming students, this is what she had to say. “To have fun and enjoy your journey! Starting something new is always nerve wrecking and scary in the beginning, but will be so worth it in the end. Something that I always remind myself is that, growth doesn’t happen within your comfort zone.”
