Esthetics Student Success Story: Justyne Bliss

About Justyne Bliss

While Ms. Justyne may have just started her Esthetics career, the beauty industry is something she has been working in for the past 10 years. It all started with an Estee Lauder counter position at Macy’s in 2012. In 2017, Justyne then became an ambassador for Estee Lauder where she was able to travel to locations between Seattle to Bellingham such as Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Ulta’s that carried their product to help boost the brand and educate employees on new products.

Along with education she also participated in Make Up Artistry for events. Later on she became the manager for Ulta Beauty in Lake Stevens, WA. “I have always been in love with the skin and beauty industry. There is something so amazing about helping a person look and feel their best. Making someone feel beautiful inside and out has always been a passion of mine.” Explains Justyne. As much as she loved working in the retail side, being on the professional spa side always had an appeal to her. “So when the stars aligned and I finally got my chance to enroll. I took a huge leap of faith and have never been happier!” Shares Justyne.

Where some people do extensive research on which college they will choose to start their career, Ms. Justyne already had an idea on where she wanted to go. “I chose Evergreen because I have had several friends and co-workers who have come here and had nothing but beautiful things to say! So I scheduled a tour and sat and talked with Ms. Melissa and almost instantly knew I was right where I was supposed to be. Evergreen is a place you feel like family. I have seriously had the most wonderful experience.” Justyne explains.

The Evergreen Experience

Ms. Justyne caters to each individual clients needs for a relaxing customized facial.

Since starting the Esthetics program with us Ms. Justyne has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far, and what sets her apart from other Estheticians: “I would have to say so far I just love facials, what ever your guest needs you can cater to, even if it is just to relax or to target a skin concern. You can make it such a customizable experience.” Justyne continues by adding how her past work experience has helped her boost her client experience. “In the consultation something I learned from Estee was to make sure you know what there “wishes” for their skin would be. To make sure if they like to have conversation, and know what I’m using or just relax. So that way I can set the tone and maximize the experience. I value that people don’t always get to treat themselves to pamper days or they might not have time away from the kids often so I make sure to make my movements extra special and enhance when I can with upgrades from the menu. I love to always start with body compression like Mrs. Sonya taught us to make it such a full body experience.”

“My work ethic is different from others cause my parents always taught me if you are on time your 15 minutes late. Punctuation is very important to me. I like to look at what I have the night before so I can mentally prepare my self for each day and, what I can do extra to make them feel like they are in the right place. I have always connected so much with my guests, working for Estee Lauder that was the number one focus, making sure the clients experience was to the full potential. I deeply care about each one of my clients wants/needs and I take my time to ensure that I reach all of the goals that they have hopes for their skin.” Shares Justyne. “When we made the disease and disorders slide/book that was a pivotal moment for me. I was intimidated because I had not done a PowerPoint since high school (12 years ago). After I buckled down and got started I felt so accomplished and proud when I was done. Not only did I learn what the disorders and diseases look like in real life but I brushed up on my tech skills.”

The Next Step

Ms. Justyne is currently at the half way point of her time with us. As she continues to flourish in her program and sharpen her skills she is already thinking ahead of what’s to come. “My hopes for after school are to find a fun little spa near my home where I can build a nice clientele and also allow me to be creative with my space.” When starting anything new in life, the hardest part is taking the leap. Coming into the program can be a little nerve racking. For those of you who are ready to embark in this new journey, Ms. Justyne reveals her words of wisdom. “My advice would be to take each day at a time and give everything your all. It is such a short time of your life and it goes by even faster, but you learn so much! Make sure that you enjoy each day and most importantly have fun with it!

Ms. Justyne is set to graduate in October, 2021.
