Esthetics Student Success Story: Sophia Meak

About Sophia Meak

As somebody who has suffered from skin conditions her whole life, from heat rashes to eczema and acne, skin has always been important to Ms. Sophia Meak. “My skincare journey has taught me a lot, this is why I aspire to be an Esthetician,” Sophia shares. Ms. Sophia currently works in human services for adolescents struggling with mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse. After five years of being their office coordinator support, as well as attending community college full time for Dental Hygiene and Business, Sophia decided to pursue her passion and began searching for an Esthetics program that would work with her 9-5 work schedule. “I have friends who were former students at EBC, and they had nothing but great things to say about the college,” says Sophia. So she reached out to Evergreen Beauty College and asked us to please give her a call when we had open enrollment for our evening Esthetics program. While she eagerly waited to hear back, Sophia worked as a henna and makeup artist on the weekends, and in January 2020, she got a call from EBC! Ms. Sophia dropped all of her community college classes and began her journey with Evergreen.

The Evergreen Experience

Upon starting her program, Ms. Sophia quickly realized that she didn’t just want to be a licensed Esthetician, but also a successful business woman. Sophia shares with us her goals:

“My aim is to provide excellent customer service, help clients achieve healthy skin, and improve my clients wellness by performing holistic facials, man or woman. I let my clients know that my interest is their skin and wellness. Skin health is important as it helps people from within.”

Ms. Sophia lives out her mission to help others achieve peak skin health and wellness by constantly educating her clients on products and skin care. Her clients are eager to book services with her, and they come back for her amazing facial massages and in depth knowledge. When asked what assignments she found to be most helpful in her program, Sophia recognized our Nuts and Bolts program, an online learning curriculum that teaches the important of customer service, marketing, retail, and building a clientele in the business world. “As a student who was taking classes for Business Admin, NaB was the highlight for me during my program,” noted Sophia.

This dedication to her clients and building her business shows, as Ms. Sophia won Evergreen Beauty College’s Digital Marketing award for her outstanding marketing of her work and skills through social media. “I started my beauty page on Instagram to showcase my work and share my knowledge of skincare. My page consists of skin facts, product knowledge, and pictures of the clients I’ve seen at school,” says Sophia. Sophia’s favorite services to do are lashes and facials, she also takes pride in her strong communication and customer service.

The Next Step

With graduation just around the corner in December 2020, Sophia shares with us her plans for the future; “My plan after graduation is to work in a holistic spa part time and also work from home. I want to gain more skin and wellness knowledge from other professionals so I can implement that into my own business. I also want to travel and attend seminars to experience skin care from different spas.” The world of skincare is an ever growing industry and Sophia’s desire to pursue continuing education shows that her future in this industry is bright!

We asked Ms. Sophia what advice she has for incoming students, Sophia stated “To incoming EBC students, have fun! Don’t stop learning! Love the process! Enjoy your journey with a plan and a good heart!” If you are interested in following Ms. Sophia’s Esthetics journey, give her a follow at @uberphia . Congratulations Sophia!
