Esthetics Student Success Story: Verena Schouten

About Verena Schouten

Verena Schouten has had an interest in skincare for several years but had not quite entered the world of esthetics until this year. Before enrolling at Evergreen Beauty College, Verena worked in real estate marketing. While in real estate marketing, she took a break away from her job to be a stay-at-home mom. Her break gave her a few things: time with her family, and more clarity on what she wanted to do when it came to her education. When her daughter started school, Verena took the jump and started to look into rolling in esthetics schools. One of Verena’s main desires to become an esthetician is being an aide in creating someone’s confidence in their own skin. When looking into schools, she found that Evergreen Beauty College was close to her home. With the campus being close to home was a big deciding factor for Verena.

The Evergreen Experience

During Verena’s time in her program, she has excelled in a few different areas. In the beginning of our program, she was given a skin layer project that allowed her to learn and remember the different layers in the body. With this, she was able to use her creativity and expand her knowledge of the skin. When it comes to practicing her skills hands on Verena shared with us, “My favorite services to provide are hands down lash extensions and waxing! I enjoy facials as well, since they are more skincare focused, but it’s the more detailed work that I enjoy the most!”

One thing that has allowed Verena to excel in her program is her excellent communication skills. She has lived in several different countries and has always genuinely enjoyed connecting with new people and learning more about them. With her time in the program, Verena has become a Student Ambassador at her campus, and has been able to work with new and existing students to allow them to feel more welcome in their program.

The Next Step

Verena takes a lot of pride in her work and is very excited to move onto the next step of her new career. “I am very motivated in whatever I choose to study.

I spend a lot of my free time researching products and ingredients that benefit my clients, because I genuinely care in making them feel beautiful and confident in their skin.” After school, Verena shared her plans, “I am hoping to gain more experience in the work field and get a good feel for the market and my target demographic before opening up my own business.”

One thing that Verena recommends to new students is ensuring that they do their own research as well, because the world of esthetics is vast, and the industry is ever changing. “Just because you learned something in school, doesn’t mean you know everything there is to know about that topic. We have so much information readily available to us, and I would recommend anyone to put in the extra time to really know your products and services. Your clients will benefit from this, and so will you.”
