How to Style Bangs With Curly Hair in Three Steps

Cutting the hair directly above the forehead and around the face can contour your face, hiding asymmetry in facial features. Every girl (or boy) with curly hair knows that curly hair sets differently according to how you arrange it when wet. Curls get “under the weather” easily, with the hair cuticle shriveling up or expanding according to the temperature and humidity. All of this means that when you have curly hair you can never be sure of your bangs will look on any given day. Here is a three-step guide on how to style bangs with curly hair. With a couple of hair products, some equipment and about fifteen extra minutes each morning, you will get your bangs bang on.

First Rule to Style Bangs with Curly Hair: Start Wet

To get the perfect bangs, don’t wait for your hair to dry naturally but start when they are wet. Gently squeeze out water from your hair, blot it with a soft towel and grab a bottle of serum or leave-in straightening cream. Take a coin-sized amount of the hair cream on your palm and rub both your hands together to distribute it across your palms. Run your hands through your hair, starting at the roots and traveling towards the tips. Once your hair is creamed, run a wide-toothed comb through it to ensure that no strand is left uncoated.  The purpose of this step is to protect the hair from heat damage of the subsequent steps and to prep it for styling.

Turn on the Blow Dryer

With your wet hair prepped up, grab a blow dryer and a paddle brush to zap out your curly bangs. Styling a curly bang can be tougher than styling a straight or wavy bang; here is how the professionals do it.  Slowly sweeping your paddle brush from roots of your bangs to the opposite ear, brush your wet hair across your forehead in the direction you want your bangs to fall. With your other hand, blow dry your bangs, directing the nozzle downwards the hair shaft to add shine. This way, you hair will dry diagonally and will naturally resist not just curls but also cowlicks while adding movement. Don’t stop till your hair is completely dry because even a slight dampness will coax your hair back into its natural curl.

Clean Up

Your blow dried bangs may end up looking too blunt or artificial. To tackle limpness or bluntness, raise your bangs with a brush and spray some hairspray on the roots to uplift them. If your bang looks too “done”, run your fingers through it. This will separate the hair and add variation to the fall of individual strands so that they don’t look identical.

Mainstream beauty industry focuses on straight and wavy hair. Consequently, curly-haired men and women often have trouble finding styling products and services tailored for their needs. To style bangs with curly hair, you may consider engaging services of a curly hair specialist or you may go step further and learn to style it yourself from an establishment like Ever Green Beauty College.
