Master Esthetic – Free Information Night: Q&A
Thank you to everyone whom attended the Free Information Night for the Master Esthetic Grandfathering Program at Evergreen Beauty College!
We covered a lot of information and wanted to start a thread where you can ask the questions you weren’t able to ask below. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction! Good luck on your journey and look forward to building this new road alongside you!
Last night we had our information night and had a great turn out. There were a few questions that needed some clarity, one of which was regarding LED use and how that would be implemented in the new Esthetic licenses. We had Kathleen Sather, former Advisory Board Member in the audience and she offered check on it. After her conversation with Ben Rogers, the Licensing Manager and my follow up call to him, the only limited use of LED Light would be if (a) they are considered a laser and (b) if they are a medical device. The current devices she is using was not prescriptive and therefore could be operated under the esthetic license.
Kathleen is practicing Esthetician and Nail Tech and owner of a Day Spa in the 24 years. Thank you for checking on it for us!
Thank you Frank, this was very helpful.
Hello Frank, I wanted to thank you and your staff for the information last night. The whole process has been really confusing and appreciate the clarity that you gave.
I wanted to follow up and ask if you found out anything on how tattoo removal would be treated in the new esthetic laws. I read through the handout that you gave but didn’t see it spelled out in the definition. Thank you for your help again!
Hello Jamie, thank you for coming out the other night. It was great meeting you! I did follow up on our conversation and speak with the DOL manager this morning and he gave me some clarification regarding how tattoo removal will be treated. He shared that since tattoo removal is done with laser, it would therefore be within the scope of a Master Esthetician and/or a health care professional. For an individual to be able to practice a tattoo removal via a laser, they would need to fall into either of those two scopes. As a licensed esthetician, grandfathering would allow you to practice!
Thank you Frank! You are AWESOME!!!!!!
Hi Frank, it was great seeing you the other night. Thank you for staying proactive on this and having your students best interests in mind.
My question is – once we are grandfathered by completing the additional 85 hrs, would we be required by the state to complete another state board test associated with the Master Esthetician classification?
Hello Nicole,
I apologize for not responding earlier, I must have missed your comment. Thank you very much for your question. The answer is no, you will not be required to sit for another state exam if you participate in Grandfathering during 2014. Once you complete the program, we’ll put together a package for your to submit to the state. After the Grandfathering year is over, all Master Esthetician will be completing a written and exam to attain certification.
It was great seeing you as well. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family!
Hi,
If I don’t not get my masters this year, 2014, what will the process be like in after 2014? what is important about being grandfathered in now?
Hello Lauren,
Thank you for your message. Prior to January 1, 2015, an applicant for a master esthetician license must have an active license in good standing as an esthetician, pay the appropriate license fee, and provide the department with proof of having satisfied one or more of the following requirements:
Requirement 1: (A)(I) A minimum of thirty-five hours employment as a provider of medium depth peels under the delegation or supervision of a licensed physician, advanced registered nurse practitioner, or physician assistant, or other licensed professional whose licensure permits such delegation or supervision; or (II) Seven hours of training in theory and application of medium depth peels; and
(B)(I) A minimum of one hundred fifty hours employment as a laser operator under the delegation or supervision of a licensed physician, advanced registered nurse practitioner, or physician assistant, or other licensed professional whose licensure permits such delegation or supervision; or (II) Seventy-five hours of laser training;
Requirement 2: A national or international diploma or certification in esthetics that is recognized by the department by rule;
Requirement 3: An instructor in esthetics who has been licensed as an instructor in esthetics by the department for a minimum of three years; or
Requirement 4: Completion of one thousand two hundred hours of an esthetic curriculum approved by the department.
Once January 1st, 2015 comes, Washington State licensed estheticians will have one option and that is to enroll and complete an additional 450 hours.
I hope this is helpful and answered your question. If you have more questions or need more clarity, please let me know.
