Master Esthetics Student Success Story: Stephanie Boen

Our Renton campus was excited to award one of their Master Esthetics future professionals this past month in an all school assembly. Ms. Stephanie Boen is connecting with her peers and the community as she settles onto the path toward a beautiful industry, and I can’t wait to share her story with you.

About Stephanie Boen

When Ms. Stephanie shared her reason for looking into the beauty industry, her answer was beautifully stated while offering a different perspective.  “I have always wanted to help people, and I wanted a trade. I have worked the last 10 years in customer service, which I love, and I see that as an extension of that. I love skincare. I love to learn about skin and how it works, and how and why different products work. Those things – a trade, a desire to serve and help people, and my obsession with skincare led me to pursue a Master Esthetician program,” shares Stephanie.

Choosing the right school to start you on a path to your new career is essential, and Stephanie knew from the beginning that Evergreen Beauty College was the beauty school for her. “I loved the staff right off the bat. Jen, the admissions counselor in Renton made me feel immediately welcome. I also love the story of the school, and that it is owned by a family who is truly invested in the success of their students. I knew I could succeed here!” adds Stephanie.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Master Esthetics program with us Ms. Stephanie has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other estheticians:

“I enjoy almost everything about my program here. I didn’t know I would enjoy waxing as much as I do, and I love that I can invite people in to treat themselves while I am learning. I love the access I have to products and tools at Evergreen. Our phase 1 teacher had us make flash cards for all of our chapter terms (before we switched to chromebook) and it made it a lot easier for me to absorb the information. We have since switched to chromebook, which offers built in flash cards but because I retained so much from them as an assigned assignment, I still continue to make my own in addition to the ones provided.”

“So far, I feel that my strength is in skincare knowledge. Obviously, I am learning still, but I understand the process of facials easily because I understand most skincare products. I am enjoying learning more of why and how things affect the skin – and I can’t wait to begin learning advanced treatments.”

“I consider myself a thoughtful, curious person with a desire to help people feel more comfortable in their skin. I think most successful estheticians are the same way. One reason I would consider myself different from others would be that I want to give everyone who comes to see me a feeling of relaxation, safety, comfort, and respect. It’s a component that is very important to me.”

The Next Step

Although Ms. Stephanie is months from graduation she is already setting goals that will pave a pathway through the industry that will set her apart. “After graduating I would love to work at a medical spa. I dream someday of opening a spa that is a safe space for all people, especially people who are transgender and gender-non-conforming,” Stephanie offered.

“If I could share some relevant advice to those that will eventually enroll into school it would be that performing services isn’t nearly as scary as it seems. Talk to everyone you know to get models – even your barista. You never know who will say yes! All things you do will bring forth great opportunities to build off of throughout your program and career,” explains Stephanie.

Ms. Stephanie Boen graduates next May, 2020. And if you are interested in continuing to follow Stephanie throughout her program, you can check her out on Instagram: @luminatingskin .
