Simple Black Hair Care Tips

The 2009 Chris Rock documentary on hair inspired women to look for black hair care tips.  These tips allowed some women to go natural.  Those who needed extra help and guidance on how to take care of their hair, turned to the world wide web.

African American Hair Care Tips and Tricks

The term “natural” refers to the practice of letting the hair grow naturally from the root to the tip.  This means using no weaves or chemical relaxants.  Black women who want to take this journey will need to learn about curly hair care.

As many black women start using relaxants at an early age, they are unlikely to know what their hair will look in its natural state.  The hair care industry identifies hair texture with numbers and letters classification system.  Number 2 is in the middle and represents wavy hair.  Some black women will fit into this category.  However, the majority of black women will have curly hair which is represented by the 3 and 4 categories.

The categories described above distinguish between the different types of curly hair.  For example, wavy hair will have a loose curl pattern.  On the flip side, very curly hair has a wiry zig zag pattern.

Black Hair Care Tips

Products, not hair type will determine how easy it is to manage the hair.  In order to find the right products, women will have to experiment with different brands and styling products.  As everybody is different, what works on one person may not be effective on another.

How to Grow Long Hair

There is a widespread myth that black women cannot grow long hair.  The reality is that many people simply do not make the effort to grow their hair out.  As it takes a month to grow half an inch of hair, the process is very lengthy.  Women who want long hair should eat well, take vitamins and be patient.

Natural Hair Care Tips for Black Women

Listed below are some tips women can use to maintain their new natural hair.

  • Do not use any more chemicals after going natural.
  • Use a sulphate free shampoo.
  • Use a silicone free deep conditioner.
  • Moisturize the hair with a leave in conditioner.
  • Try to use accessories that do not pull on or snap the hair.

Women who have natural hair can style it as they wish.  Natural hair can be braided, straightened and curled.  It is almost impossible to do these things with chemically treated hair.  Most women will be extremely pleased with the results of using black hair care tips.
