Hair Design Student Success Story: Laura Garcia
About Laura Garcia
Laura Garcia is a Hair Design student determined to take the world by storm. After 7 years in the medical field as a nursing assistant, she decided to change her career path during the COVID pandemic. Overwhelmed by the amount of work she was doing, on top of raising her daughter, she saw an opportunity. “I see this opportunity as being able to be my own boss and managing my own salon, whether it be a small or big one!
” Laura expressed.
Since she was raising her daughter, she sought out something that would be able to adapt to her busy schedule, get her daughter to school, and manage her assignments. What she found once she started her journey at our Everett campus was that she loved the environment, and the adaptability of it. Since she enrolled in the Hair Design program, she know that she was going to be able to get her license to practice within a year.
Evergreen Experience
After starting her program, Laura realized where her strengths lied. “I’m able to learn quickly, and I love styling my client’s hair. I’m always open to learn something new.” Whether it was getting new hot tools to try on her clients, or figuring out different ways to get a balayage on her mannequin just right, Laura has been working hard since her first day on campus.
To set herself apart, she has been working hard to build her portfolio. A portfolio of strong work will get her far in this industry, and it serves as a good reminder for her. “Sometimes I don’t feel that motivated or confident, it mirrors my hard work. It reminds me that I am capable of doing what I want to do, as long as I push myself to continue doing the hard work.” As she has been working on more clients, she’s been able to learn to adapt to different client personality types, and build her portfolio and reputation along the way.
The Next Step
Laura has big dreams, and a big heart to match. Along with giving her clients a welcoming, easygoing and authentic environment, integrity is key. “I am not the one to pressure you into doing something that you wouldn’t want to do,” Laura says. She strives to give her clients exactly what they want, and keep their hair healthy along the way.
After she graduates, Laura intends to find a position in a salon that focuses on extensions and color. “Eventually, I want to move out of the state to buy a home, and start building my own business from there.” When asked what advice she had for incoming students that may be worried, Laura candidly said, “Keep pushing through and never give up. You can do anything you set your mind to as long as you continue to push yourself.”
