Face Washing: Not As Simple As You May Think

face washing It may be hard to believe but you can actually do something as simple as face washing incorrectly. If you use the wrong product or wrong technique for your skin type, then this could easily lead to breakouts or dryness. Here are some tips to wash your face properly.

Remove Makeup Before Washing Your Face

Some people remove makeup traces with toner using a cotton pad, but they do it after cleansing. In fact, it should be backwards. It may make sense to cleanse your face right away because it might seem to take off makeup as well, but this is incorrect. Use a non-greasy makeup remover or facial oil to safely remove your makeup before you start washing. Some people use toners but toners aren’t actually meant to remove makeup.

Choose the Right Face Washing Cleanser

Everybody has a specific skin type and there are certain cleansers that are specifically made for these skin types. It’s important that you check what your skin type is before using a cleanser. There are many ways to do this. You can simply observe your skin. If it often feels dry, then you most likely have dry skin. You can check on some online guides to compare and help identify what your skin type is.

Some people think that foamy cleansers work the best because they give you a really clean feeling but that clean feeling is actually a bad thing; it means you’ve stripped your skin of all its natural oils and moisture. Although, cleansers with foam are suitable for very oily skin.

Don’t Scrub too Hard or too Soft

Using a wash cloth also isn’t a simple matter. Some people avoid wash cloths because they seem too harsh, but they’re perfectly fine as long as they aren’t too abrasive. It’s also important to watch your technique. Try to find a middle ground between being too gentle or too harsh with the scrubbing. Scrubbing too softly will render it useless but scrubbing too hard will damage your skin.

Take Your Time

Washing shouldn’t be rushed. A thorough washing is very important so make sure you lather up for over a minute. It may be tempting to cleanse many times a day, but you only really need to do it twice a day. The optimal times being in the evening before you sleep and in the morning when you wake up. Just rinse with water or a moisturizing toner to start the day fresh and you can use your regular cleanser at night.
