Many people search a lifetime to find a career in which they actually enjoy, as for Ms. Kobi, she realized her dreams sooner than most. “I went to Washington State University for a semester trying out the Psychology program but shortly after I soon realized that it wasn’t  the direction for me. I’ve always loved doing hair and enjoyed working with people so I decided to make a career out of it and headed into the beauty industry where I could do both,” Kobi shares.

“Coming from a small town close to Canada, there weren’t any beauty schools in the immediate area. Atter looking into some schools I heard great success stories about Evergreen Beauty College. With some research, I found that Evergreen was the best one for me and it came with a great program that was well laid out from the start,” Kobi adds in.

Since starting the Hair Design program with us Ms. Kobi has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other stylist:

“What I really enjoy about my program has anything to do with special occasion hair like updos, braids, curls, etc. I really do enjoy everything though, certain days I love cutting hair and other days I love coloring hair. As for assignments, I’ve really enjoyed our Nuts and Bolts program and all the different aspects of the business side of things being tailored to the beauty industry I’m in. Learning more about the real life side to business and all the different ways to be successful will make all the difference out in the real world so I’ve been soaking it up. Most of all, going through the Nuts and Bolts program has made me a more confident stylist.”

“With only a few months of schooling left, I’ve done a lot of perms so far and although they take awhile I do enjoy the process and love the results that I get and would have to count them as a specialty of mine. Braiding is also where I feel comfortable. Braids complete every look or style and there’s so many different ways to wear them.”

“As for what set’s me apart from other stylist? Well, I think my personality sets me apart. Some of my top five personality traits include positivity and communication and I think that helps my relationship with my clients. I love getting to know each and every one of them, and I know clients can tell when you have a genuine interest. I like being able to create personal connections with my clients and make them feel welcome when they’re in my chair. Getting your hair done should be a time to relax and have some time to yourself so I like to make sure they enjoy the whole process, from start to finish. Doing that extra bit; making the service personal, makes all the difference and will keep your clients coming back to you!”

With Ms. Kobi’s time coming to a close, she shares where she’ll be off to next, “I am planning on working at a salon called Rustic Roots in my hometown: Everson, WA. I will be able to offer all my color, cutting, and updo services there. It’s a great tight-knit salon which is perfect for me. So, as I finish my last hours I offer some advice to the new students starting their journey where I once stood, and that is to never give up! The days get long but the hours are worth it. Also make the most of it and work on those client and business skills because there’s no better place to work on them other than school, where your learning all about them!”

Ms. Kobi Lautenbach is set to graduate in March of 2020.
