Nail Technology Student Success Story: Janet Solano Cruz

About Janet Solano Cruz

It all starts with a spark of interest, and that’s how it began for Ms. Janet Solano Cruz, “I chose the Nail Technology course because I wanted to master a skill I’ve had passion for, even if that meant I’d have to drive about an hour away to perfect my craft. Prior to that I was always in the medical field, and never in a million years thought I was going to attend beauty school. I was working in healthcare full time, while spending any extra time with my two kids. Any courses I took were always geared for the healthcare industry so I thought to my self, why not go in depth in a nail course for fun? I’m the type of girl who always went to have her nails done, but I could never find a salon in my area who did the type of “style” I liked so I always left not satisfied. So eventually I started doing my own nails as a hobby, and as my interest in nails grew I knew I needed more knowledge, practice and ultimately I needed to educate  myself. So, my journey in nails began as I started doing my research to find a school, and that’s when I came across Evergreen’s website. I set up an appointment and registered for the nail technology program a month later. Not only does EBC have great success stories, but their graduation rate shows they care and I couldn’t wait to be apart of that Evergreen family,” Janet shares.

The Evergreen Experience

Ms. Janet Solano Cruz, a recent nail technician graduate, showcases a beautifully created ombre design on well balanced stiletto nails.

Since starting the Nail Technology program with us Ms. Janet has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other nail artist:

“What I liked most about my program was the connection between my classmates and my teacher, Ms. Mimi. We shared our creations, creativity and tips with each other which made it feel like we were a family. We learned and grew from one another as we shared our thoughts, products and techniques. It was nothing but encouragement and support that you could even feel the team atmosphere.”

“As for what assignments helped me the most during school? I’d have to say that one of our guest speakers came in and did a little training. It provided more in-depth information on how to create different nail designs, what products to use, how to encapsulate, along with bringing new techniques in artificial nail application. We also had to create a nail disease and disorders project that was very beneficial to me, so much so that I felt comfortable sharing my knowledge to my clients.”

“Out of everything I’ve learned, from natural to artificial services my specialty has been my vision of art. I love being able to create a fresh set of nail styles or designs.

I’m a manicurist with a passion for nail art, and am determined to get the ‘look’ a client wants. I love taking my time so I can ensure the service is done well and all clients leave satisfied, especially because I wouldn’t want anyone to feel the way I use to when leaving my nail appointments prior to schooling. Being that nail tech that goes out of their way, taking personal time to prepare for each client sets me apart because I want to make sure I have to right materials needed to create their looks. I look at nails as a project I want to perfect and display because that art canvas represents me in the end.”

The Next Step

Great technique and well balanced artificial set finished with a glitter accent nail was executed flawlessly by Ms. Janet.

One of the scariest parts in this industry is finishing school and finding that right place to settle and start your business, but Ms. Janet is already on her way to achieving her next set of goals. “My plans for after graduation is starting a nail business from home, eventually becoming my own boss in a nail studio of my own in the skagit area.”

“Being in the industry and looking back, some advice for incoming students to Evergreen would be to remember to be patient, always practice, invest in your business and yourself. We often equate success from the result of the amount of time we put in at work, but instead we should equate it to the quality of time we put in. Believe in yourself, always be productive, and most importantly would be to remain positive . Your mindset is powerful,  and you can become what you want to be as long you believe in yourself,” stated Janet.
