Tips on How to Shave Even if you Have Sensitive Skin

tips on how to shaveShaving sensitive skin for men can be an arduous task. Without proper training, a barber required to shave a person may end up with a client with some sort of skin irritation. Skin irritation happens because of the inflammation that resides within the hair follicles and the oil glands. Commonly referred to as razor burn, this may not need to occur. There are some requirements that need to be identified in order to ensure that irritation does not occur during and after shaving.

Proper Shaver

Having at least a 3 blade razor is a requirement in order to get a clean close shave.

Shaving Cream

Shaving cream or gel based product or an aloe Vera gel. This will soften up the skin in order to ensure getting a close shave. Shaving sensitive skin issues The first and foremost component of ensuring a clean close shave is the razor itself. Selecting the proper razor is important. While the market bears a lot of economical razors that are easy on the pocketbook, they are not easy on the face. These lower quality shavers are the culprits of skin irritation. Experimenting with different bladed razors will let you notice the difference between them. It goes without saying that the razor needs to be replaced after it starts to become dull.

  • Just as a house needs a primer coat before the actual paint color goes on, so does a face needs to be primed as well. Rinsing the skin with warm water prior to actual shaving will make the shave quicker and cleaner by softening the hair and opening the pores.
  • Ensuring that a bathtub visit is not for too long prior to shaving because it will increase the chances for skin irritation during the actual shaving process.
  • Basing the skin with a good quality shaving cream is a must for the skin. Substituting low quality creams will cause skin irritation that will not be wanted. In emergency cases, it is probably better to use some sort of hair conditioner as a substitute for soap. Using unscented shaving cream or a gel is a lot better for the skin.
  • Shaving products that contain alcohol or menthol as part of the ingredients list are non-conducive for a clean shave. These chemicals are considered irritants and also can cause in-grown hairs.
  • To get a close shave, it is better to shave in the opposite direction of the hair growth. There are techniques that promote with the grain and against the grain of hair growth. Shaving with the grain does not necessarily promote a clean close shave.
  • So while rinsing the shaver multiple times, it is not advisable to go over a particular spot more than two times.
  • Using an unscented lotion to moisturize the shaved skin will help the skin adapt to the clean close shave it just received. Using a pure aloe Vera gel can be used in place of lotion and making sure that no perfumes or deodorants are applied to the shaved areas for at least a couple of hours is important to follow.

Shaving sensitive skin at times ends up with skin irritation and if that happens rubbing the affected area with an ice cube and when dry to apply a bit of baby powder will help heal the skin.
