5 Modern Ways to Wear Bangs

Wear BangsBangs tend to go in and out of fashion every few years. Recently Michelle Obama made international headlines when she changed her hairstyle to one that included some very youthful bangs.

Bangs serve several important purposes because they can help offset a high forehead and they shorten the appearance of a long, thin face. Bangs often create a youthful, flirty look. Think of Carly Rae Jepsen and her thick bangs.

5 Ways to Wear Your Bangs

If you would like some modern advice on how to wear bangs, here are some ideas for you:

Very Short Bangs

Very short bangs only work for a limited group of people. They can look very stylish on a young woman but they will make an older woman look matronly. Extremely short bangs only work if the hair is thick and the woman is thin. Short bangs are a great style accent for someone who is always experimenting with avant-garde fashion but they will not flatter someone who is not a fashionista.

Side Swept Bangs

Women who have a square or rectangular face can benefit from having long, side swept bangs. The side swept bangs create an angle that offsets the rectangular shape of the face and create a softer look. These bangs will be even more effective in creating this illusion if they are streaked with color.

Wispy Bangs

If you have a bony, angular face, or a large chin, wispy bangs will distract the eyes from your chin. The wispy bangs create a softer, more feminine look.

Blunt Bangs

Blunt bangs consisting of thick hair are ideal if you want to emphasize your eyes. Have them cut to a length that is an inch below your eyebrows. Dry them with a blow dryer and a round brush. Be sure your hair is in perfect condition. It needs to be shiny and healthy for this look to work.

Split Bangs

This is a great look if you have thick hair and a very symmetrical face. This style works best with an oval face shape. Simply split the hair line in the middle and comb one side to the left and one to the right. This is a great style to wear when you are growing your hair out.

Maintenance

If you decide to get bangs, remember that they require regular maintenance. You may be able to trim your bangs at home. Always trim your bangs when the hair is dry. If you trim your bangs when the hair is wet, the hair will shrink and be much shorter than you expected. Trim the bangs just an eighth of an inch at a time.
