6 Tips to Help you Save Money at the Salon

What if you could save money at the salon and still give yourself the hair treatments you want?  Salon treatments can be expensive and sometimes you might be torn between pampering yourself and saving money.  Why not do both?  The following are six great ways you can save money at the salon without skimping on your right to get the cut, color, shade, shine, or curl you deserve.

Color Your Own Hair

If you only want to make your current hair color a few shades darker or lighter, it may be easier to do it yourself than you think.  Coloring your own hair can save you big bucks at the salon that you can instead use on other treatments.  If you are planning on coloring your own, you should consider the following tips:

  • Stay within two shades of your natural or current hair color
  • Be prepared by gathering all the things you’ll need for the job before you begin
  • Test the hair color on a few strands to get a feel for how it will look

Oprah also gives some great advice about how to dye your own hair at home that you may want to look into.

Color Your Own Roots

If the thought of dying your own hair is too scary, get it colored by a professional, but touch up your own roots.  When your natural color begins to peak through, recoloring your roots yourself can save you a trip to the salon and be just as effective.  Just be mindful to use the same color, shade, and brand as was used on the rest of your hair.

Join a Loyalty Program

Most salons offer discounts to members of loyalty programs.  You might be able to accrue points with every treatment that can be redeemed later.  You might also be eligible for special discounts for referring new clients.

Cut Your Own Bangs

Although cutting your own bangs is usually not recommended, trimming them is fairly straightforward.  If you are confident, you can save money by trimming your bangs at home.   Alternately, you can ask your salon if they offer free bang trims for regular members.

Feeling adventurous? Try a Beauty School Salon

Beauty school salons offer discounts of up to 50% off to customers who allow students do their hair.  Modern beauty schools can be a great place to get a fabulous hairdo.  Trainees often put their best foot forward and professional trainers are always on call to sort out any snags.
