Beauty School Training–Learning Outside the Classroom

At timeBack to School Blog Pic 8s, going to school can be very repetitive. Doesn’t matter what you’re going for, whether it be at the university level, community college or a trade school. On August 21, 2013 Evergreen Beauty College hosted it’s annual Bringing Beauty Back to School event, where Evergreen’s Future Professionals were given the opportunity to spend the day in the sunshine and giving back to the community! This event welcomes parents to bring in their children (K-12) for free haircuts right before the new school year begins. But it’s more than just haircuts! Along with free haircuts, Evergreen’s students offered free manicures and skincare lessons as well.

In it’s third year running, Evergreen held this special event at the Everett and Bellevue campuses, and students from Evergreen’s newest campus in Renton, gave a helping hand at both of the northern campuses. Each year the event seems to get bigger and bigger.

Combined, between both campuses, there was an estimated:

  • 1,000 services given = $12,000 in donated services to the local communities
  • 800 fun cones of cotton candy
  • 500 bags of yummy popcorn
  • 200 Bernstein Bear Classic books
  • 100 Evergreen state fair tickets

It is because of this generous attitude and culture that makes both the students and the staff so thankful to be a part of the Evergreen family. Joe Trieu, President of Evergreen, said, “Not only do we get to change the lives of the families that sit in our chair, but as owners, watching how it changes the lives of our students and staff. Each year students’ minds are blown away by their own abilities of how much of a difference they can make to the technical capabilities and confidence when it comes to their work.” From one student’s perspective, “[It was] amazing, inspiring, and emotional because being able to hear everyone’s stories and where they come from and what an impact the event made on them. And I loved getting a lot of hugs!” Said Natalie Dennis, a Cosmetology student from the Everett campus.

The Bringing Beauty Back to School event is giving on so many different levels. Of course, it gives back to the community and allows families to bring their children to get ready for the new school year, which if you have a lot of children, can get very expensive. And on the other hand, it also gives the students the opportunity to know what it’s like to work in a fast-paced work environment and a wonderful opportunity to build their clientele. I think it’s safe to say that this will be an ongoing summer tradition for the Evergreen family!
