We love to honor our students because we know that support from family and friends can take a student far! This month’s Digital Marketing Award has been given to someone we think has gone above and beyond in their social media efforts. Congrats, Jasmine Soung! Jasmine is one of our talented cosmetology students. Here is a little bit more about her.

About Jasmine

Our students are diverse. Many of our students have longed to pursue a beauty career since their childhood, and some of them found a love for hair or makeup later in life. Either way, our students all have different backgrounds! This is what Jasmine said she was doing before she decided to attend beauty school.

“Before deciding to attend cosmetology school, I was enrolled in college courses with the intention of getting an associates degree. Typical classroom learning proved to be dull for me so I turned to a field with much more hands-on learning.

I’ve always been intrigued by hair and makeup, as well as the theory behind them. I also wanted to know more about the business aspects of the beauty industry. Cosmetology school provided a perfect way to learn all of these things.”

We’re happy to hear that, Jasmine! Next, we asked her to share why clients should book with her, what sets her apart from other stylists, and what makes her client approach unique.

“Clients should book an appointment with me because I will take the time to listen to what they want for their new look. I listen to their specific requests and implement them in a way that works best for them. My friendly attitude and smile always brings comfort to my clients.”

“I really like to make sure that my clients feel comfortable and when it comes to advice on their new look. I take the time to ensure that I know exactly what they are envisioning for themselves. I make sure that I let my clients are aware of the maintenance required to upkeep each style. My recommendations when it comes the products are those that are needed to maintain styles.”

“In order for my clients to be sure about the look that they want, I present them with various options for them to consider. I do my best to accommodate their look to their lifestyle. I genuinely care about how my clients feel about their new look when they leave my chair. My goal is to spread positivity and inspire people to do the same.”

The Evergreen Experience

We asked Jasmine why she chose Evergreen for her cosmetology education.

“I chose to attend Evergreen Beauty College because I felt at home when I first interviewed and toured the campus. The staff was very friendly and loving, and once I started attending school I really got to see how much the educators care about their students. It is located very close to my family and near many great places that would be great to work at when I graduate.”

We strive to create an environment that feels like coming home. Our culture is important to us. In our classrooms and in our clinic, we want our students to feel companionship, constructive feedback, and uplifting vibes.

In addition to why she chose to attend Evergreen, we asked Jasmine what part of our program she has found to be the most helpful, which part of the curriculum she likes the best, and what her strong suit is.

“My favorite part of the cosmetology program is definitely haircutting and hair coloring. My ability to give someone a fantastic haircut and then finding a unique color to round out their new look is the most satisfying feeling for me. I love seeing their smiles!”

“The assignments that have helped me the most would have to be the test-outs. These assignments have pushed me to learn and polish the techniques that I have been taught in order to do well on them. They have given me a chance to prove that I am progressing as a stylist and have what it takes to take my skills to a professional level.”

“One of my many strengths is cutting men’s hair and women’s color/ balayage. With men’s haircuts, I can see what is needed in order to blend and cut hair in a way that complements the head shapes of my clients. I use the same logic when it comes to color. I look at the haircut, what the client wants, and use the tone of their skin in order to match them with a color that complements their new look.”

We are so glad that Jasmine feels that the curriculum helps her track and prove her progression. One of our goals here at Evergreen Beauty College is to help our students see their future ahead of them by teaching goal setting. If you can map out the steps to your success, you’re more likely to get there!

The Next Step

“After graduating, I plan to pursue a career in the beauty industry as a stylist, focusing my efforts on hair coloring and cutting. Ideally, I would like to supplement my experience as a stylist by taking more advanced classes that would help me further my knowledge and credentials. Hopefully, I will be able to travel to different events and places in order to further my skill set.”

We’re impressed by Jasmine’s drive to continuing learning. In the beauty industry, it’s important to keep up on the latest trends and techniques. This landscape is changing all the time! We wanted to give Jasmine the chance to tell us why she thinks she was given the Digital Marketing Award.

“In the month of January, I focused on creating a brand for myself. I achieved this through posting on various social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook so that people could see my work. Hashtags can help if you use relevant keywords. My posts also contained the details of what I did on my clients to achieve the look that they wanted.”
Good for you, Jasmine! Knowing how to market yourself is going to come in handy when you make your way into the industry. Before she goes, though, we asked her to share some advice with incoming students.

“If you want to perfect something, make sure you have models to practice your techniques on. It is highly beneficial for students to bring people into practice techniques on. When I started, I brought in as many friends and family that I could get in touch with to make sure that got enough practice.”

Jasmine graduates in June of 2017, so make sure to book with her in our student salon* before she goes! You can also check her out on the social media channels that won her this award! Her Instagram handle is @jasminesoung!
