Hair Care Advice You Can Give To Your Clients This Winter

winter hair careWinter weather is typically very damaging on hair. Obviously, some locations are worse than others. It all depends on Mother Nature.

For those to ski or participate in a variety of other winter sports, their hair is subject to even more damage from sun exposure and blustery winds. Many times, unfortunately, this isn’t even a consideration. People tend to worry more about hair in warmer weather.

What follows are several common issues, which occur during the season. The information is meant to serve as a starting point, when clients ask you for winter hair care advice.

Wash Hair Less

There is no set in stone rule that hair must be washed every day. Advise clients to wash their hair no more than three times per week. This will help to keep it from drying out. It is also extremely important to completely dry the hair, before venturing outside. Moisture plus cold air causes hair to become brittle and dry.

Frequent Trimming

In the winter, it’s an excellent idea to trim the hair every 6 to 8 weeks. Just taking off the bare minimum, greatly reduces the chance of getting split ends. Let’s face it, no one wants split ends during any season.

Hair Covering

Always wear a hat or headscarf, when going outdoors. This is an excellent way to protect the hair inclement weather. It’s best to wrap the hair in a silk scarf, before putting on a hat. Doing this reduces static electricity and helps to protect the hairstyle underneath.

Another great tip to reduce flyaway hair is to recommend your favorite heat-styling product, which is made for use with a blow dryer. Keep some on hand, so that it’s easy for clients to make the purchase.

Deep Conditioning and Winter Hair Care Advice

It is recommended that hair be conditioned once a week, during cold weather. Quite obviously, this replenishes moisture in the hair, which is typically depleted by dry heat in the home and frigid winter air.

Purchase a Humidifier

You may want to consider suggesting that your clients purchase a humidifier, if they tell you that their home seems unusually dry. These folks may express a concern over the possibility of frizzy hair. No worries! Simply explained to them that isn’t the case.

As you can see, there is definitely hope for wintertime hair. There is no need for your clients to panic. Armed with this winter hair care advice, you should have no problems assisting your clients to look and feel great until the warmer weather of spring arrives.
