So You Want To Be a Barber?

Aside from quality hair cutting and grooming skills, barbers need to be in tune with the latest styles and techniques to make a mark in the industry. Fashions and trends are constantly changing, and barbers have to stay up to date to ensure that their clients stay satisfied. Evergreen Beauty College strives to provide a comprehensive education to help aspiring barbers be successful.

Modern Vs. Traditional Barbering Styles and Techniques

At Evergreen Beauty College, students have the opportunity to learn different techniques and methods to cut, shampoo, style and shave hair. Students are also given the chance to learn male skin care and cosmetology. The curriculum covers different hairstyles, coloring, curling, and straightening techniques, and have the opportunity to learn additional skills from guest artists and specialty classes. Facials and foam shaves for men are also an integral part of the barbering education.

Students are taken to spas and beauty parlors to practice what they have learned in their barber classes.

Barbering courses are incomplete without hands-on experience, so this practical training can help students develop muscle memory to feel more comfortable in a professional barbering setting..

The barbering course also provides training in traditional barbering techniques, as well as the modern straight razor shaving techniques with hot towels. Learning these techniques can allow you to expand the services you offer to your clients and increase your earning opportunities as a professional barber!

Razors Versus Electric Shavers

The men who visit parlors and barbershops may opt for either razors or electric shavers according to their preferences. Each has its own pros and cons.

Electric Shavers

Electric Shavers allow you to give a good shave in a short amount of time. They are easy and simple to carry around, and you can do a quick, hassle-free shave anywhere.

The blades stay sharp for a long time and do not require much maintenance. Shavers are also a great option for people who are concerned about nicking themselves while shaving with a razor because there are no exposed blades. The drawback of using an electric shaver is that the shave is not as close, you need to shave more frequently, and the shaver can irritate sensitive skin. Your clients may also have to deal with ingrown hairs. Shavers have to be maintained properly, and when parts have to be replaced, it can be costly.

Razors

Razors, as opposed to electric shavers, give you a close and smooth shave. You must learn the direction in which you should shave to get a clean look. Razors are relatively easy to use, however, shaving the neck area can be difficult, and you can nick or cut your client if you’re not careful. Razor blades need to be changed often, but the blades are inexpensive to replace. In unskilled hands, a straight razor can harm a client, which is why specialized training and certification is required by most state laws.

Business Management Skills

Barbering students have the opportunity to learn business management skills and become acquainted with marketing and entrepreneurial techniques. This helps our graduates to market their skills when they are building their book of business, and can even continue to serve them if they decide to become business or barbershop owners..
