These Three Business Skills Will Drive Your Beauty Career

There are a ton of super talented people in the beauty industry, all you have to do is look around you and you realize how much talent is in the room with you. Some of your peers may be underappreciated, but an argument can be made for estheticians become some of the most technically skilled artists in the world. After all, a canvas is always the same. A person? Not so much.

All this considered, people in the beauty industry are underappreciated. To make sure this never happens to you again, and to supercharge your career in the Beauty Industry master these three skills.

Marketing and Business Development – In 2012 the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that there were 44,400 Skincare specialists, and the industry is expected to grow 40% within the next decade. With that much competition out there marketing and business development is an absolutely crucial skill to have. You need to know how to get new clients, how to get people talking about you, and how to get your name out there. Make youtube videos, be a thought leader, and become a social media ninja. It may not seem like it should be the case, but this skill is much more valuable than any technical beauty skills you have

Customer Service and Culture – You’ve learned all about marketing and business development, and now you have a solid stream of customers. Now your priority is making them fall in love with you and become loyal repeat customers and advocates. Make a little culture in your salon. Make a little world that you’re inviting your clients into, and make them fall in love with that world. The little details and giving 110% to your clients will keep them coming back and even bringing their friends and family.

Learning How to Learn – We’ve talked before about how You’re Always Learning in the Esthetics Industry, so you might as well make sure that you know exactly how you learn. There are more and more tutorials and DIY resources available everyday and it may seem impossible to keep up. Having a structured strategy for figuring out what’s important to learn, and how to learn it will put you leaps and bounds ahead of your competition. Plus, it will keep you relevant in a rapid fire, constantly changing industry.
