Tools of the Trade: Your Beauty School Kit

If you are planning on attending beauty school, you will need a great deal more than just your hands as tools of the trade. There are several items that are must-haves for any beauty school supply kit.  Make sure that you acquire these supplies early on, and you will be well on your way to a successful career.

Knowing Your Beauty School Kit

Your supply kit will be your best asset once you begin your beauty school program. Standard kits feature all of the same basic items. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Brushes
  • Iron
  • Blow-dryer
  • Clippers and trimmers
  • Razors
  • Shears
  • Hair rollers
  • Applicator bottles for hair dyeing
  • Perming rods & papers
  • Mannequin heads
  • Pins
  • Plastic gloves
  • Special clips
  • Butterfly Clamps
  • Coloring cape
  • Nail buffer, nail file, emery boards, cotton, nail polish, manicure and pedicure soap, orange wood stick, manicure bowls, nail clippers, lotion, slough, and scrub
  • Wax & wax applicators
  • Eyebrow trimmers and tweezers
  • For facials: mud mask, astringent/toner, lotion, face scrub and soap

Cosmetology Courses and Beauty School Kits

Many cosmetology schools will provide their students with the supply kits. They usually will include the price in with your total tuition. This makes for an easier time for students, because they will not have to go through the hassle of coming up with the money beforehand, and may even receive a scholarship or loan to cover the cost.

However, there are some instances where your school will tell the students about a trusted vendor in the area from which you can purchase kits. That way, you can go and buy it directly from them. Either way, it is crucial that you obtain this kit before you begin your cosmetology courses.

The Benefits of a Beauty Textbook

Although it is not a part of your kit, your beauty school textbook is invaluable because of the fact that it is a great source of information for cosmetology students. The textbook, together with the mannequin heads, are the most useful tools to you at this point. Since you will not start your program out having actual clients to work on, you must treat the mannequin  as you would a client. It may seem silly, but in no time at all, you will be able to work on real clients. First, you are going to have to learn to properly utilize each and every one of the tools that is at your disposal.

With a well stocked beauty school kit, you are sure to do well at cosmetology school. Be sure to keep your kit in a safe spot where no one else can access it, because you likely would have to replace anything yourself that you lose. Although all of the above supplies are required for your beauty school kit, the most important of all is a clear and focused mind.
